The risk of storms should remain negligible, although an isolated cell cannot be entirely ruled out in Upper Valais. Very hot. Forecast temperatures in the Rhône Valley: lows of 16 to 18°, highs of 36 to 37°. In resorts at around 1500m: lows of 13 to 17°, highs of 29 to 31°. On the peaks: 15/27° at 2000m, 9/16° at 3000m. Freezing level: 4500m. Light to moderate breeze during the day in the Rhône Valley, becoming more noticeable late in the day. Moderate westerly wind in the high mountains.

Next few days in Valais

Friday: sunny morning, then sunshine potentially reduced in the afternoon by the anvils of cumulonimbus clouds developing over neighbouring regions. A few storm cells likely at the end of the day, during the evening, and through the following night. Storms may be locally severe and accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts. Maximum temperatures around 35° and still 28° at 1500 m. Saturday 1st August, National Day: largely sunny weather, but often a muggy atmosphere. A few storm pockets likely to develop in the afternoon near high ground and in the mountains. Localised outbreaks over lowland regions cannot be ruled out. Maximum temperatures ranging between 31 and 33°, 24° at 1500 m. Sunday 2nd August: sunshine remaining generally abundant, but with cumulus clouds over high ground and in the mountains during the afternoon, leading to a few storm pockets between the end of the day and the evening. Storm risk more limited over lowland regions. Maximum temperatures could again approach 34-35° and 28° at 1500 m. Heatwave conditions likely to continue until the middle of next week. South-westerly flow at altitude could nevertheless become more humid and bring thundery areas to all regions, particularly from Tuesday or Wednesday. Peak heat on Monday with temperatures regularly exceeding 35° at low altitude.
